Faith Formation is back and ready for a new year of learning, playing, and building community together. Find out what we’re up to below!
Looking to go a bit deeper this year? Serving in Faith Formation is a terrific way to deepen your own spirituality while helping raise thoughtful, curious, and compassionate UU’s. Can you commit to 2-3 hours per month in Faith Formation? We provide training, curricula, and support! You’ll be paired with experienced collaborators and it’s a great way to make new connections at UU AVL.
- Child Care – assist Via in our child care room with ages 4 and under
- K-2nd Grade – Monthly themes and Bible stories
- 3rd-4th Grade – Monthly themes
- 5th-6th Grade – Monthly themes
- 7th-8th Grade – Crossing Paths / World Religions – includes field trips!
- 9th Grade – Coming of Age Leader or Mentor
- 10th-12th Grade – YRUU Youth Group Advisor

2026-27 Faith Formation kicks off on Sunday, September 13! We will return to two services that day, and we will have a backpack blessing during the Time for All Ages. Groups will meet for the first time and we will also dedicate our Faith Formation teachers and collaborators! Be sure to mark your calendars!
Our K-6th groups will be exploring the monthly themes through story, creativity, and rituals. Our K-2nd groups will also be exploring some stories from the Bible this year with a new curriculum written by a UU religious educator for use in UU congregations. For 7th-8th grade, we are offering Crossing Paths, a world religions curriculum that includes field trips! 9th graders have the opportunity to participate in Coming of Age this year, and our high school youth group will meet regularly on Sunday mornings as well.
Our Our Whole Lives offerings this year will be K-1st grade in the fall, and 4th-5th grade in the winter. You must register for Faith Formation to participate in OWL. More info coming soon! Find out more about the OWL program here
Are you a parent or caregiver? We’d love to chat with you! We are hoping to host some parent/caregiver and Faith Formation staff conversations this fall. We’re envisioning a casual meet up after worship where kids can play and parents and caregivers can chat with staff, ask questions, and let us know what kinds of family ministry activities you’re interested in. We also want to know if there are ways that we can be supporting you or helping you bring Faith Formation home during the week. We’ll supply a simple lunch to make it easier to attend. If this is something that interests you, please let me know!
