I want to share something personal with you all.

Donald Post, a white man with glasses and short brown hair and a beard, stands at a podium wearing a blue suit and red patterned tie. The placard on the front of the podium says FSU Florida State University. This year, I had the honor of serving as the MC for Lavender Graduation at my alma mater, Florida State University. Lavender Graduation is a celebration that recognizes and uplifts LGBTQ+ students as they reach this important milestone. This tradition holds a special place for me. I helped begin it years ago at Florida State University as the founding president of the FSU Pride Alumni Network, with the hope that every student would feel seen, valued, and celebrated for who they are.

I was invited to take part last year, but everything was canceled following the school shooting at FSU. Like so many moments of loss, it invited a deeper kind of reflection. It reminded me how sacred life is, how quickly things can change, and how important it is to be present with one another while we have the chance.

As I stepped into this role this year, I found myself thinking about this congregation.

There is something sacred here. Not just in what we believe, but in how we care for one another. In the way we create space for people to belong, to be seen, and to be loved without condition.

You are what make this community what it is. You are the reason this place carries meaning.

I carry deep gratitude for each of you. This congregation gives me a sense of purpose and a reason to begin each day with joy.

May we continue to choose one another.

May we continue to lead with love.
And may we never lose sight of how much we matter to each other.

Thank you for being part of this shared journey.
