There are some Sundays when our Sanctuary feels a little snug. You may have also noticed this. We have a lot of new folks coming through our doors and for good reasons. We have an amazing and loving community that is doing good work in our community. At the same time, the state of our country and our world warrants gathering with others who share our values. We gather both for the comfort of a safe community but also to do that good work together.

So things are snug on Sundays and it’s a good problem to have. This last Sunday, we had another membership class, helping folks who are new to our community learn more about UU history as well as the values and covenant of our congregation. We had 22 adults in attendance plus a handful of kiddos. This marks the sixth membership class since I came on board two years ago. We’ve had almost 90 new members in that time! It’s exciting to be part of a growing congregation that welcomes new folks as well as we do!

All of this said, as we are growing, we have new good problems coming up that we are working to solve. How do we meet the needs of our overflowing children and youth programming or the Soul Matters groups that fill up so fast every fall? How do we serve our ever-growing group of young adults? How do we make enough coffee? How do we make sure that in a congregation that is already rather large and is growing every week that we make the kinds of connections that maintain our beautiful community?

For those who are new, I encourage you to engage in many of our smaller groups, whether they are Collective Liberation (Justice) teams, social groups, or the teams that help us run on Sundays and throughout the week. For those who have been here for years, take this opportunity to explore this growing congregation anew and meet some of the amazing newcomers that I’ve had the opportunity to work with these last two years. Let’s make room! (And always remember that you can sit in the choir loft when the choir is not singing.)
