The name of our LGBTQQIAT2S+ (lesbian/gay/bisexual/trans/queer/questioning/intersex/asexual/2-
spirit +) team is actually: Pride+ Gender and Sexuality Justice. That’s a mouthful, of course, so:
Pride+!

UU Asheville is a formally-recognized UUA Welcoming Congregation. Each year, we work on a
renewal process with the UUA, building on the UUA’s Five Practices of Welcome Renewal, because a congregation is
only as truly welcoming to all as the work we’re willing to put into it. Every year, we work to support
our community partners like Tranzmission, Blue Ridge Pride, WNCAP and the Campaign for
Southern Equality. We do educational events, we engage in worship together like our Pride blessing
service, we recognize significant dates like Trans Day of Visibility (and TD of Remembrance),
National Coming Out Day, & Pride. We host queer-only spaces like Queer Q-onversations, and
shared queer & ally spaces like our monthly meetings. We have fun together with potlucks, and build
community through events like our upcoming Pride + Ice Cream Social – Sunday, Sept. 20th after
the service.

We also create welcome by using welcoming language – avoiding binary language (“brothers &
sisters”), sharing our pronouns so that trans and non-binary members, friends and visitors feel
included.

UU Asheville is a place where we work hard to create a culture of welcome and acceptance that
transcends “tolerance” and aims for full inclusion and full celebration of all the ways human beings
can show up and love the hell out of this world. As we do this beloved work together, we invite you to:
