Lenora Thom

Music Director

December 2008

The Intergenerational Choir made a smashing first appearance of the season on November 2, singing for the Mexican celebration of “El Dia de Los Muertos.” I’m so proud of them!  The next appearance of the IG Choir is on Christmas Eve at the afternoon family service.  We will begin rehearsals for that on Sunday, December 7.  If you are interested in participating, please email me at MusicDirector@UUAsheville.org.

I’m delighted to announce our second year of MUUsic in the Afternoon – A Concert Series.”   We will present three Sunday afternoon programs, with the first being on February 15 featuring members of The Opal Quartet.  This talented group of young string players includes Amy Lovinger, violinist, who has played here at UUCA several times.  On March 1, we will host Kate Steinbeck and Amy Brucksch from the acclaimed Keowee Chamber Music Festival.  These classically trained musicians will perform an eclectic blend of beautiful music for flute and guitar.  Finally, on April 5, I am thrilled to welcome Anne O’Byrne, soprano, accompanied by her husband David Fisk, in an imaginative program of operatic arias, classical gems and Irish folk songs. Anne is known to many of you through her concerts with the Asheville Choral Society and her recent appearance here at UUCA on Oct. 12.

This promises to be such a wonderful series!  All concerts begin at 4 pm, are about an hour long and will be followed by a Music Committee-hosted reception.  Please mark the dates!
