Lenora Thom, Music Director

Lenora Thom has been Music Director for the Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville since 2003. Under her astute guidance, the Music Program is growing at a rapid rate, adding new members each year to its Adult Choir and energetic Intergenerational Choir. The UUCA congregation truly appreciates music, and knows that music makes a significant contribution to our lives. Please explore our various choral opportunities, come to services to hear what we have to offer, or to contact Lenora for more information, MusicDirector@UUAsheville.orgRead Lenora Thom's Biography.

Variety of Music

UUCA takes a great deal of pride in the quality and variety of its Music Program. The instrumental and vocal music for each service is selected by Lenora Thom, whose talent for programming is well-known in the Asheville area. An accomplished keyboardist, Ms. Thom provides music on both piano and organ at most services; occasionally, guest musicians offer music on other instruments. Hymns and readings are selected primarily by the minister, Rev. Mark Ward, or by the guest speaker, and Lenora's music always supports the overall theme of the service in unique and creative ways.

Our Music Program is wonderfully eclectic and inclusive. Lenora has a special gift for presenting music which is rarely heard. A large array of vocal, choral and instrumental music is offered including: music from religious traditions including Jewish, Native American and Buddhist; ethnic music from many cultures sung in many languages; folk music from many countries; spirituals, jazz, classical, new age, tunes from musicals, and popular American music since 1920.

The musical year culminates in early June with Choir Sunday. A highlight of the church calendar, this service is devoted entirely to the choral music centered on a unifying theme chosen by the Music Director. Past themes have included "A Chronology of American Music," "The Poet Speaks," and "An die Musik - To Music."
