There are many opportunities for volunteering your time and talents at our church. Our staff is supported by a large group of volunteers. Volunteering not only helps us “get the job done,” but is an enriching part of your participation in the life of the church. Working together is a way to make new friends, learn more about the church, and feel a part of our community. We encourage you to consider volunteering. You will find more information and sign-up sheets posted in Sandburg Hall. If you need additional information, please send us an email to Information@UUAsheville.org with your interests and how we might contact you.
In addition to Committee opportunities, we always have a need for:
Greeters
Greeters play an important role in welcoming people to our church on Sunday mornings. Two greeters are needed for every Sunday service.
Ushers
For each service we need two ushers to hand out the Orders of Service, control admittance after the service starts, collect the offering, and count the bills and change in the offertory plates.
Visitor Table Hosts
This is the area that all visitors go to for name tags and information. Normally staffed by the Membership Committee, additional volunteers help with this important connection with visitors and newcomers. Stop by the visitors table and indicate your interest.
Social Hour Hosts
Coffee and conversation are planned after both Sunday services. Two volunteers are needed before and after each service to prepare coffee, serve it and put it all away.
Flowers
Flowers are a wonderful way to share a joy or life event with the congregation and beautify the church during a service.
Office Staff Support
Volunteers are needed every week to support the office staff. Duties include copying, mailing, changing the outdoor sign, tidying the sanctuary, and many other tasks to help keep the church running smoothly.
Religious Education Teachers
With the planned expansion of our programs there are numerous opportunities to teach in our RE program and invite any interested congregant to share their gifts with young people by taking a turn in the classroom.. All of our Religious Education Teachers are volunteers who generously donate their time and talents to support our children and youth. Click Religious Education for more information.
