Lenora Thom

Music Director

November 2009

Coming up in the Music Program:
The Intergenerational (IG) Choir will sing on Nov. 1 for the traditional “Day of the Dead” Sunday. This year our focus will be a New Orleans-style “jazz funeral,” and we’ll present three wonderful anthems at both services. Also featured will be guest trombonist Charles Holland and a few other surprises. The next appearance of the IG Choir will be on Dec. 24 at the family service. We will rehearse each Sunday in December from 12:30-1:15 PM. If you are interested in more information, please contact me.

The Adult Choir has added two more new members – Melody Goldberg, soprano, and Carlos Vargas, tenor. As with the IG Choir, we welcome new singers, so please contact me if you are interested!

The Music Committee is hard at work on several projects. We will be mounting a concerted effort in November and December to purchase the excellent hymnal supplement, Singing the Journey. We currently own 150 copies and we, as a congregation, need to purchase 150 more. One generous UUCA Member has just donated $200 towards this effort, so we’re hopeful that our goal is reachable! Look for more information on upcoming Sundays.

Lastly, we are thrilled to announce the performers for the 2010 “MUUsic in the Afternoon” concert series: Martin Hargrove, phenomenal bass-baritone who sang at services here last year, will be accompanied by Scott Ward, the Rev. Mark Ward’s brother. The Opal Quartet will return! They were a smash hit on the series last spring. And finally, Lavinia Plonka, mime, will give a fascinating performance you won’t want to miss. Check the website often for dates and more information to come!
