Lenora Thom

Music Director

June 2010

As I write this, I am in my final week with the Asheville Choral Society (ACS) and feverishly working to get everything done for our concerts this weekend. As most of you know, I am stepping down from the Music Director post with ACS, and this will be an emotional climax to my ten years with them. It has been a full, rich, wonderful experience for me, with countless moments of joy, learning, laughter, and great music making. They are a marvelous group with an exciting future ahead of them, and they know they will always have my love and support. I thank my UUCA family for all the support you have shown ACS through the years!

We are wrapping up the season here as well, with the Adult Choir’s presentation of “Sweet Music” on June 6, Choir Sunday. The program will include beautiful settings of poetry by Emily Dickinson, Christopher Marlowe, Sara Teasdale, Gil Vincente and others. The special feature will be the world premiere of “Watershed,” a stunningly beautiful piece by our resident award-winning composer, Laura Jump. I am thrilled to be presenting this program with our fabulous choir, and hope you will attend.

After Choir Sunday, I go into hibernation (!) for a desperately needed rest, and the Music Committee takes over the planning of music at summer services. I know you will hear lots of fine music in my absence. I hope you all have a fabulous summer, and I will see you in late August!
