Green Sanctuary

What are some operational practices that indicate we are working toward “living gently” on the earth?

Replaced the cedar shake roof on the sanctuary with environmentally friendly “Enviroshakes” was a major step for the congregation.

Washable plates, bowls, spoons, forks, knives and cloth napkins were purchased by the women’s and men’s breakfast groups to reduce our use of paper and plastic materials.

At least 90% of the time, recycled paper is purchased and used in the office.

Each workstation and all other appropriate locations have a paper recycling bin in use.

Staff prints on both sides of all in-house paper.

Staff recycles toner cartridges.

Staff dedicated to the use of nondisposable items when eating on the premises.

Non-toxic, biodegradable cleaning products are purchased and used for janitorial and kitchen use.

Computers and printers are networked to reduce the need for extra printing.

Offices are heated and cooled by individual units which are turned off during non-office hours.

Lights and office equipment are turned off during non-office hours.

We are only just beginning...
