How did we begin?

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville Board of Trustees established a Green Sanctuary Committee on November 17, 2004. The purpose of the committee was to work toward certification of Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville as a “Green Sanctuary”, a status recognized by and conferred through the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly and the Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth.

In June 2008, an Environmental Sustainability Policy was approved by the congregation. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville achieved Green Sanctuary certification in June 2008.
