Service: Sustaining the Creative Spark (audio only)

Sunday, June 25, 2017 10am
James Cassara, Guest Speaker
A continuation of a talk presented last year, artist and arts educator James Cassara will explore the intersection between creativity and the “real world”, looking at ways in which we can sustain and nurture the creative spark in a world that often seems far too busy and chaotic. This will be an interactive experiment; a pair of canvases will be set up during the service, with open invitations to come down and add your own individual ideas to what James has begun. For some it may be the first time in years they’ve applied paints-which will be provided-to a surface beyond the walls of their house. Plans for the completed works are still be to determined but they will find a home that appreciates and supports them. Come ready to be gently nudged out of your safety zone! When it feels like the world is falling down around you, globally, locally, or personally, it’s hard to find moments of joy, let alone stay connected to optimism and hope for the long haul. The famous quote, ‘Give them, not hell, but hope and courage,’ though mistakenly attributed to 18th century Universalist John Murray (it was likely a loose paraphrase), is a core value of ours.
